BurnCircle Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 10, 2026
BurnCircle ("the app," "we") lets friends, family, and colleagues run group fitness challenges together. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. We keep it short and honest.
Information we collect
- Phone number — used to create your account and sign you in via a one-time SMS code. SMS delivery is handled by Twilio.
- Profile details — the display name you enter and, optionally, a gender selection used only to pick your profile icon.
- Health and fitness data — with your explicit permission, the app reads your daily step count and active calories burned from Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android). We read daily totals only; we do not read workouts, heart rate, location, sleep, or any other health category, and we never write data to your health records.
- Challenge activity — challenges you create or join, your daily progress toward challenge goals, points, and rankings.
- Chat messages — messages you send in a challenge chat, including members you tag and read status.
How your information is used
- To operate your account and sign-in.
- To score challenges and display challengeboards: your name, profile icon, daily step/calorie totals, points, and rank are visible only to approved members of the same challenge.
- To deliver chat within a challenge, visible only to that challenge's members.
- To announce weekly winners within a challenge.
We do not sell your data. We do not use your health data for advertising or marketing of any kind, and we never share it with third parties for their own purposes. Health data received through Apple HealthKit and Android Health Connect is used solely to provide the app's challenge-scoring features, consistent with Apple's and Google's health-data policies.
Where your data lives
Your account, challenge, progress, and chat data are stored with our backend provider, protected by row-level security so that challenge data is only accessible to that challenge's members. Health data leaves your device only as daily step/calorie totals tied to your challenges — the app never uploads your underlying health records.
Your choices and controls
- Health permissions — reading health data is required for challenge scoring, and you can grant or revoke access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health, or in the Health Connect app on Android. If access is off, your totals simply stop updating.
- Leaving challenges — you can leave any challenge at any time, which removes you from its challengeboard.
- Deleting messages — you can delete your own chat messages at any time, for everyone.
- Account deletion — you can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the Profile screen in the app; deletion is immediate and permanent.
Data retention
We keep your data while your account is active so past challenges and results remain available to you and your circles. If you delete your account, associated data is removed as described above.
Children
BurnCircle is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update this page and the "last updated" date, and note the change in the app's release notes.
